Dashboard and Battery

Hello all, I'm new to the forum. I'm having quite a few issues with my HHR. For starters, my whole dashboard does not work. I been driving it like that for years. The only thing that lights up is the check engine light. And now, I thought my car battery was just dead, so I tried jumping it with a 12V battery jumper, still doesn't work. Idk what to do now. I wanna do all I can on my own before I take it in. Help? Thank you in advance.

Did you jump it at the battery? Or under the hood?

BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, scan for codes. Write down ALL of them. The numbers. Don’t bother with description. If it was drivable, you could take it to any chain parts store for that. Since it seems yours isn’t, buy a cheap scanner or get a friend with one to help. You may need to connect a charger or jump box to do it. Try to keep a charge on the battery so you don’t lose your codes!

Check the owners manual for the proper way to jump and charge.

Does the speedo and tach work? Do the warning lights work momentarily when you turn the key to on?
