Difference with the 2.2 and 2.4 engine

What are the actual differences between the 2.2 and 2.4, is it possible that GM uses the same engine, but for the 2.4 the intake and trottle is bigger, but what else can there be.

thanks for a better understanding

what do you thing 2.2 and 2.4 stand for? engine size in Liters. For old timers that are use to cubic inch, it is roughly 134 cu in vs 146 cu in. In 06 models the 2.4 had variable valve timing and the 2.2 did not. Size does make a difference.

2mm difference in bore size(88 to 86mm). diff cams ,larger TB and different programming,,,,, 2.4 has VVT ( variable valve timing or cam timing ) untill 09 when the 2.2 picked it up even though its a diff head.
2.0 has all different internals and an even smaller bore............

Slightly off topic, but is that why the 2.2 engine is now rated with a slightly better MPG?

Yes Bored & Stroked, but also the 2.4 block is beefed up in critical areas in addition to all the other stuff mentioned & not..

Use the "Search" function for more in-depth details should you wish..

Direct injection is the main reason.

Sleeper, I was trying to keep it short without going into all the other stuff, like pistons etc
I chose the 2.4 for those reasons even tho I would give up some in mpg but felt I got a engine that would hold up much better in the long haul.

Really?

I had no idea the 2.2 was a direct injection engine.

Source?

Got me. My mind wonder and was thinking of something else . Found what I was looking for
Engines; • 2.4L I-4 SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) this is for the GMC's

2.0 is the only sidi (direct injection) engine in the hhr. 2.4 in the other applications is direct injected, the 6 speed auto.trans is with the 2.4 direct injected motor also.

I'm not sure but for the 09 model year, didn't the 2.2 get Direct Injection ?

I thought I read it here ??
