How does the HHR using E83 fuel perform?

If you have an HHR with a FlexFuel badge you can try it for yourself.

E85 = more power less MPG.

 

I stopped using E85 after my style of driving was getting 6mpg less.

 

Not just your style. The lower price usually is eaten up by the poorer MPG.

 

It's good stuff out our way. The SS is slowly being tuned to run full e85. I'm also going to see how far I can push the non-flex 2.2 on E85. Currently 0 issues on either running E20

A couple weeks ago, a guy noticed I didn't have my FlexFuel badge on the rear door any more. Ask if I still had it, told him I did, he said he'd give me twenty bucks for it. Sure. We weren't anywhere near my house, so I sent it to him, via PayPal.

He told me in Atlanta, if your vehicle has a FlexFuel badge, you can ride in the HOT lane?, even if only one person in the vehicle. Works for me, I'll go two hundred miles out of the way, to avoid going into Atlanta.

 

Don't do it, don't run an E85 'tune' on your SS, as we can't run full E85 on our LNF engine without supporting mods = $$$
Some have tried & 'made' it work by taking out mid-range power, & other 'tricks', but what's the point of risking going 'lean' & have a piston 'POP'.
Higher volume fuel injectors, should be used.

E47 is the 'sweet' spot for the LNF engine, & going to E85 will not gain much, maybe 5hp, from the Ethanol, & maybe 10hp more thru 'super' tuning.
& you'll be over working both fuel pumps, & you'll need to change your oil every month from the Ethanol dilution, & sometimes E85 is really E70 at the pump.

And more importantly if your running E47 & run out or can't get E85 somewhere far from home, or the E85 pump is out of order,
or any other of the many Murphy's Laws:
Murphy's law is a popular adage that states that "things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance," or more commonly,
"whatever can go wrong, will go wrong."

With an E47 'tune' you can fill up with 91/93 gasoline & 'limp' home, meaning that your ecm WILL give you the correct amount of fuel.
Just go easy, no high loads, as your timing tables are set for Ethanol, & you will have too much timing for gasoline, but you will be ok...

With an E85 'tune' you are screwed ,
So your stuck, without fuel, when running straight E85, as 91/93 won't work as the ECM with freak-out because of the fuel 'constant' needed in the E85 'tune',
& you are indeed SOL.

Hay, if you got my E47 'tune' online at the 'link' I provided in that other 'thread', it is really a E47 & up to E100 'tune'.
The only change that you will need to do is to change the fuel 'constant' in the 'tune' as EVERY OTHER TABLE is a-ok for E47 thru E100
The 'timing' tables DO NOT need to be changed as they are perfect for E47 thru E100 tunes.

Everyone should run E20 on every engine.
All engines can run E20 with 0 issues.
At the E20 level = maximum knock resistance has been reached, hmm meaning that your engine won't knock...
Your engine will last longer, run cooler, make a little more power, with the only downside being a decrease in MPG.
