More info….the car seems little louder recently and sounds kind of like rushing air when under load like up mountains or accelerating.
120xxx miles since chains and guides….checked for slack in chain yesterday….no slack.

What about the flex pipe ? They are known to fail pretty often. Usually caused by weak/bad engine mounts.

I have heard that also. I dont think I have bad mounts but I will make sure. My thoughts are…if the manifold is cracked and I need to replace it….just replace flex pipe while I’m at it. The car has 228xxx miles on it. Had 109xxx when I bought it…I have never changed any exhaust parts.

Take the heat shield off to see the manifold and flex pipe better

This shows the usual location for a cracked manifold

This is the heat shield, you can see the flex pipe above the yellow arrow

To check the upper engine mount look in thru the oblong hole in the passenger side inner fender, if the bolt head is low enough you can’t get a socket on it, the mount is toast!

This is a good engine mount, the serpentine belt tensioner bolt is in the middle of the oblong hole

Mine is little toward bottom edge….the hex bolt head is even with bottom of slotted access hole.
Manifold definitely looks cracked to me…
