I was having trouble with oil leaking out near my oil filler tube, where the tube meets the valve cover. So I got the tube out and I seen something just inside the engine and I pulled this thing out. It looks like what I'd call a rubber grommet plug. Does anyone know what this is? I have a 2.2L engine. Thanks.

 

Maybe for where the air filter housing snaps into place?

 

That sounds like that is what it could be. I wonder how long it has been in the engine. Thanks.
