Funny story - the "ESC Active" was due to the misalignment of the steering sensor. It was off by 30 degrees! I apparently moved it while changing the thermostat... see, plumbing! hahaha

OK. Maybe I'm missing something here but what does the steering angle sensor and thermostat have to do with each other ? Don't think they're in the same location and I don't think you can just accidentally "move" that sensor.
Maybe someone can clear this up.

I’ve changed at least 30 thermostats in these , never had this problem perhaps the steering intermediate shaft was turned while getting at the thermostat housing bolts.

Somebody bent something under the car and tried to fix it by re setting the steering wheel. And then, hopefully an alignment was done and the toe was set straight leaving the steering sensor in the wrong position. Ask me how I know.

I talked with the mechanic when I picked up the car and you are right, it has nothing to do with the thermostat.

We believe what happened is when I plugged in my OBDII reader and then started the car. {I have done this before.) However on this special occasion, I started getting all of the SERVICE errors on the dash. When I removed the reader everything was okay, but it somehow reset the steering location for the sensor.
He reset the system and that fixed it. I have thrown away the reader.

Yes, the thermostat is as you know under the hood , the steering angle sensor is under the dashboard
