I've been told MPG ratings are dictated by the feds based on a vehicle class/projection not on actual testing.

I'm a careful driver (most times) and try hard to get better mpg. I get better MPG driving my wifes car then she dose and it really gets here P.O.'ed.

As a witness to hundreds of GM's mileage testings, I can tell you, "THAT IS ABSOLUTELY FALSE IN REGARD TO GM". At least up until 7 years ago.

I was responsible for the construction of 5 of the testing cells at the GM Desert Proving Ground. The cost, because of the need for absolute precision, was unbelieveable.
