Harrassment...??

So I am a new HHR owner. I have been a "LIFETIME" Ford Man, never even considering ownership of anything with the bowtie on it. Naturally I have received some pretty serious ribbing and harassment for my recent purchase. My wife and my oldest daughter think I'm having a "mid-life" crisis, they think the HHR is for the 20 something surfer crowd. My brother just thinks I've lost my mind. I've explained my new love affair as completely sensible, possibly one of the most common sense purchases I've ever made.
With the current and ever increasing price at the gas pump, I sold my 8mpg '95 F-150 show truck last month. I had been looking at buying another F-150, but due to my wife having and F-350, I felt that we did not need another large truck in the driveway, or at the gas pump. The cavernous interior in the HHR is also more conducive to family road trips than my former F-150. Even though our F-350 is a Super Crew and quite spacious, and we have been on several long road trips with it, my new wagon will of course be more "road trip friendly" if for no other reason, gas mileage.
Back to the point of this thread...

How much "harassment" or "ribbings" have you taken from friends and family because of your HHR..??

The only one who jokes about it is my youngest daughter. She thinks it's ugly. I just walk to the window and point at her truck. It used to be an S-10. Now it's just a big dent on 4 wheels. It shuts her right up.

Actually- most of my family is happy I have come back from "foreign cars".
I realize that this HHR was made in Mexico and the concept of "American made" cars has changed over the years. But my older uncles are still in the past when my buying a Datsun almost got me disowned.

Well my dad at first was not too crazy about the idea b/c he is a ford man and naturally he didn't want me getting a chevy but since all the ford cars aren't really nice in my opinion he has totally changed his mind. He said he probally wouldn't buy a chevy himself but that mine is nice and he's happy with my choice. Of course he bought it for me so i guess he's starting to change.

Most people I hate reffer it to the new PT. That annoys I know most of us. I decided to take my car into manhatten to leave at my office for the working day becasue I had plans friday night. After work driving around midtown there was plenty of people stareing at my HHR. I had my windows down and a few people approched me asking questions in between lights. The car was a crowd pleaser.

no one, even people i see on the street, has ever said one negative comment at all cept from here on this forum.

had a guy go into autozone last night when i was just looking around for ideas stop me outside and ask me all kinds of ?'s about the HHR and his first comment was he loved my ride. Sat him in it and turned up the stereo and he loved it more and he was a 6'5 black guy and he was amazed how roomy it was.

he showed me his cab and half white 1500 he was fixing up and he had just got it. he had just started working on his sound system

Guapo, I'm in the same boat with you. Lifelong Ford guy, traded my F-150 for a chevy. I exected to get a ton of ribbings, but once the freinds and family see the HHR in person and drive it a little, no more rude commets.

20 something car? Now that's a hoot.

No ribbing on this end whatsoever. When I bought the HHR I was working at an apartment complex for the elderly and disabled and they loved it. I got comments like:

"I like that car...it's different...just like you."
"Wow...that sure is a bright color."
"That car is boobs up." (insert slang word for boobs) Cool black guy told me that one.
"That car ROCKS grandma." My 10 year old grandson

Even my first husband who has chastised me over the years for my selection of vehicles said he'd buy one if they came with 4WD option.

Bottom line to quiet down those who rib you, especially those who drive cars with lesser gas mileage..."I'll laugh at you all the way to the bank, while you stop at every gas station and I cruise by in my cool, economical bad a$$ ride."
