yes…I was just trying to check all possibilities while I was at it.

Removing the transfer tube is half the job of replacing the pump.

Climbs to what temp? When standing still with the a/c off, a rapid rise is expected because there is no air flowing over the radiator, until about 210 or so (I don’t remember the exact number,) when the cooling fan should kick on. With the a/c on, the fan runs continuously and little rise should be seen. If that’s not what you’re seeing, it’s prolly a fan problem.

Yes. Leave it alone. This is very unlikely to be a water pump problem. The OEM water pump is very good and many replacements are likely to fail before the original would have. Of all the pointlessly replaced parts, the water pump is hard to beat.

Unrelated. Clean the MAF sensor and throttle body, run some fuel injector cleaner in the fuel, and use “Top Tier” fuel. Then reassess. No codes?

I replaced the waterpump a while back Don…and I believe the one I put on had plastic impeller. I didnt like it but I had to get the car going again, was all I could get on short notice. Sometime you have to do what you can instead of what you know you need to unfortunately.
Mine has been coming on about 214F per DIC believe it was. And has been running with a/c on low speed of fan…but I will check it all again too.
I bought some MAP sensor cleaner and cleaned it about month ago when rough idle at that temp started …and I cleaned the smut out of the TB with gasoline and a brush….no change.
The injector cleaner I have not tried yet…I will get some 4-power made by Conklin for it…good stuff. As far as fuel…yeah I burn everything…not best I’m sure. Also new plugs wouldnt hurt….lot miles…over 100,000 on these acdelco plugs…might be at least part if it

Oh heck yet, have a look at the plugs, or just get a set of AC Delco 41-103 (iridium) and put ‘em in. No substitutes! While you’re fooling around up there, do a compression test.

The fan should turn on at around 219F with the AC compressor off. The compressor runs in defrost and recirc modes.
The t-stat opens at about 180F and closes at about 178F.
"Normal" operating temp at highway speeds is about 190F regardless of ambient. Lower is NOT better.
The temp should get up to 180F from a cold start in less than 5 minutes, regardless of ambient.

What do you guys think of using vinegar as a coolant flush? …then flush that couple engine heat cycles with water about twice before putting the Dexcool in?

Aluminum does not need or like acid flushes.
