Headlight not working?

OK, when I fire up my 2011 HHR, both headlights come on for a few seconds, as normal. Then, (in the daylight), both lights go out. Then, when I am driving, only one headlight comes on. When I turn the lights from auto to on, one comes on, until I hit the brights switch, then both come on.

Is this a switch problem, or a transmission switch? I would assume that the trans has something to do with the headlights coming on automatically in the auto mode.

Any ideas?

Bueller?

Anybody?

Put a new bulb in it...

X2, replace the bulbs.

Did you check the fuses? I bet one of the lo beam fuses is blown.

The DRL are not the same as headlight, they are on a different circuit but are the lo beam. So Both on in DRL mode, both on in hi beam, one on in lo beam means a fuse.

How quick did you expect a response?

So the only time the one side lights up is momentarily at startup, and with high beams? Sounds like a bad low beam, or a bad fuse for that side low beam, underhood fuse block, #65 or #66.

Starts at page 4-11 in your owner manual, shows how the DRL/Headlamps operate. Takes a minute to wrap your head around it.

Thanks, guys. I didn't know about the DRL fuses. As soon as the wife gets back with the car, I'll check fuses.

Thanks again!

OK. I just checked all the fuses. One fuse for DRL, good. One fuse for left low beam, good. One fuse for right low beam, (the one that's out), good. When it cools down tonight I'll check the bulbs.

Now we need to know exactly what light is not working. R high, R low, R DRL.

Like I said the DRL and Low beams use the same element BUT on a different circuit.

Thanks for the reply. Right High - working. Right Low - working. Right DRL - not working.

I don't know how that is possible.

It is possible that the Left Low out, L DRL on ,R DRL out, R low on because of that odd routing hilited.

Here is a slightly clearer wiring diagram.
