Installing used factory seat belts and back seat in 2010 panel

Purchased a used rear seat and the factory seat belts out of a wrecked HHR. I did a search and was unable to find a fix so I have to ask. When I went to mount the seat belts they were fully retracted inside the spring loaded housing. For some reason I can not get them to extend back out so I can bolt the head and bottom points. Any suggestions? They came out of a 2008 LT and are going in 2010 LS.
Thanks

Were the seat belts triggered from the car being wrecked? You may have to send them in to be rebuilt and reset. Try Safetyrestore.com

No. They were still installed in the vehicle when I removed them. The vehicle sustained front end damage. No one was using the seat belts in the rear.

Found this, it's for another vehicle but maybe the GM has the same type of check ball once you take the cover off.
Do you still have the old one to practice on?

Here's another one for a 2005 GM. Even though it's not that great of a video the guy shows the locking "cylinder".

This is about all that I can find, I think there is a gravity activated ratchet.

After watching these videos I decided to try Don Brew's schematic first, BINGO. I was just going about it wrong. While holding it plumb/level it easily pulls out.
Thank You all for trying to help.
For my next trick, I am going to install adhesive backed sound deadening material on the inside of the panels, floor, and inside of all four doors plus replace all four door speakers.

Thanks again for the help!

Hmmm, You are probably right. I should have done that first. I am going to order the replacement piece right now.

Due date 12/11. Ordered a full length down pipe. Has a weave type flex pipe and two converters. Does it take a special socket to remove the O2 sensors? I read somewhere where the guy had a socket just for that.
