I jinxed myself. Yesteday I got in the SS and my sunroof started malfunctioing. It won't retract all the way and makes a grinding noise like something is blocking the path of the glass panel from moving.

I bought my 2009 HHR new in December of 2008. I love the car, but I've had two mechanical issues already. I had the "check engine light" come on a few months ago (faulty mass air flow sensor) and I had to have the entire steering column replaced. I'm almost at 7000 miles and I can start to feel the car "loosening up" a bit, a few rattles here and there. A little disappointing, but I just really enjoy driving this little car so much, I'm willing to overlook the problems I've had (for now). I've been writing an owner's blog of my HHR, if you're interested in reading it...

Great question and here's my 2006 LT 5 Spd review

I own a 2006 Chevy HHR LT 2.2L.5 Spd with currently 487k on her and have only replaced the alternator since I purchased it in early 06. Car has served me very well and would definitely own another if need be. Kinda wish GM would bring them back but thats my opinion. Cheap car to replace parts and pretty reliable from my point of view but then again GM wouldn't make money if they last to long. I've replaced items by choice over the years just to keep it looking nice and taken care of like headlight housings, otherwise just normal things like brakes, rotors, wheel bearings and of course shocks & struts. Even with 487k on her same clutch is original with no signs of slipping. I hope this helps with reliability question, but every car can be different being honest.

P.S. Good luck & enjoy!

Hey junkie. You might want to look at the dates on the post you’re quoting. It’s like from 15 YEARS ago.

Anyways my question is how reliable is this car... Ive heard it be called the HHR Tank because it does have really good service ratings

I also have heard this car called the clunker cause of the mysterious thud's and rattles that they tend to have on occasion.

As always you guys have been more than helpful with questions i ask and its much appreciated.
Well it's been 15 years. How reliable has it been?

I’m still happy with my HHR experience!! 15 years of owning an HHR and driving over 500,000 miles in the 2 of them, still grinning every time I fill up !
