I just roll my trusty Snap On muraled oversized tool, no, pit box into the back of the HHR before each trip....just in case.....you can tell the old schoolers here, they forgot most problems now a days are electronic related..not mechanical....mechanical stuff should have been found before the trip......and really, just what mechanicals are left that can actually be worked on the side of the road without a whole tray of specialized tools?Drive it untill it dies and call a hook truck...thats what you pay all that expensive insurance for.....

I'm taking interest in this thread as well, my graduation present to myself is a 10,000mile trip around the US. I will likely need a kit of some sort!

I thought iwas the only person that carried tools in my HHR. I also carry a obd11 in my box:cool:

I quit carring much in cars years ago. I have a safety triangle, screw drivers, socket set, pliers, cresent, jumper cables. But nothing crazy. At the end of the day, like Woody said. Most of the time, it will be electrical that fails you. And all the tools in you have wont help you there.

Plus, honestly, isn't your HHR realiable? This is the same debate I had at the dealership when they asked me if I wanted the extended warrenty. I asked the sales manager... "Does GM stand behind their product? Don't they believe these cars will run to 100k with little problems? Isn't that why they give em such a good powertrain warrenty? Didn't you just tell me how much people love their HHRs?" Needless to say I declined the extended warrenty. You did read my signature right?

So if the suspension goes out... well I'll just replace with nicer aftermarket. Turbo goes to ****... if not covered under powertrain. I'll just buy a new one. Already got a connection at a turbo shop who is already telling me to put a bigger one on it (which I also declined).

Sorry off topic... my point is. IF you believe in the car, don't sweat it carring so much. Besides in all my cross country trips on my Harley... best thing I have in those tools.

exactly. i have no intention of doing "repairs" on the side of the road (that is what AAA is for). i just want a VERY minimal tool kit to do light maintenance.

oil and oil filter changes
air filter changes
bulbs
fuses
maybe brakes
gloves
a rag

a tiny canvas pouch "on the ready" to do light maintenance.

i do not want more than 5lbs of tools or so. i do not even want jumper cables (i have 2 different roadside assistance plans). my father in law has rhino ramps and i will probably be doing my oil changes there (the whole family does). so, all i will need to grab out of his garage will be the ramps, oil drain pan, and a funnel. i do not like borrowing other people's hand tools and i get uptight when people borrow mine (i have been an electrician for 16 years and i know where EVERY one of my tools is, and i do not like chasing lended tools down). also, i really dislike quick oil change type places. i can change my oil and filter and brakes for less and do it better with better oil and filters... plus, i like doing light maintenance.

i have vintage vespas, and i have a vespa specific tool kit in each vespa. they are barely bigger than a fist.

if i have an issue beyond that, i call my wife and her truck.

i researched the air filter change. what a nightmare. i am going to add a GM performance or other intake to my desired mods. i want to do everything i can afford to make my maintenance easier. what a crappy design.

Everyone is covering all the tools needed to fix everything on the road, But what spare parts do you carry? I was thinking of a mini trailer for those.:lol:
