I ended up taking out the rear wiper (it never rains in Southern California) and installed it there.

I thought that factory backup cameras never made it into production for the HHR line. (I could be wrong)

From a post dated 8/15/2008...

"Thanks for your interest in an Chevrolet HHR. The backup camera will be available across all of our models as a free flow option. It will be available around Dec. '08/Jan. '09. It should become available on the dealer checklist very soon. So keep checking and I anticipate early Sept. is when it will arrive on the checklist.

Thanks, I hope this helps.

GM Global Product Development"

When I ordered my 2011 2LT the option didn't show on Chevrolet's vehicle configurator, and I've never found an RPO code for a backup camera.

That being said, we have had members who've sworn their units were factory installed, and not dealer installed kits.

Oldblue is camera shy and doesn't like the poporatzzi, so I just use the mirrors like the old days!

GM parts Direct shows that part # as a liftgate trim for the camera, I suggest you contact them before you order anything and confirm if the camera is included and what wiring harness is required, it just might be way easier to install a wireless camera back there either in the wiper pivot hole like many have before, or those big black plastic brackets on the tag plate screws

Well,
I did a search on cars.com for HHR with CAMERA and got 17 returns. Good shots of the rear view mirror but no close-ups of the tailgate camera

#25 in the diagram looks to me like the licence plate light fixture.
