How to clean evaporator of air conditioner

There are aerosol products on the market for the purpose. I think BG also GM sells one. Basically you spray into the cavity under the cabin air filter and the foam expands and sits for a while then drains out, hopefully you cleaned the drain first.

One other easy tip to help keep it from getting/staying funky is to make sure you are pulling outside air and not re-circulating under most conditions. Re-circ does work better in high heat, but switch it back or you'll be smelling musty stuff. Fresh air really helps.

It switches back EVERY time you re start the car. GM does not want you to use recirc as a normal operation. If you push the recirc button the A/C will come on, but the A/C light does not. When you shut the motor down it goes back to fresh by default.

Not sure if what I have always done is the best preventative but I have never had a fowl oder from the AC in any car I have owned. That's a lot of car/trucks.
I admit in this climate, AC is only used off and on for approx. 4 months of the summer and once in a while in the winter to reduce interior moisturer.
Each time I use AC, I finish up the day with the AC off and air dry the humidity and moisture out of the system.
Works for me and it only takes a minute with the fan on high.

& always use Fresh air mode as well.. .
