How many miles out of 2.2L

Granted there are a lot of variables, but how many miles should the typical 2.2L engine last if taken care of properly? I drive about 2,000 miles a month and most of those miles being highway miles.

With proper care and maintenance 200K+ should be no problem.

My best friend had a 98 s10 with the 2.2L. He got rid of it with 200k on it and it was still running strong. Did I mention that they were the most brutal miles one can imagine? Think highschool/early college gear head. Oil change every 3k and regular maintenance...

Awesome! Thanks for the info!

90% of my driving is highway miles. Can this engine takes oil changes every 5,000 miles or is that a really bad practice?

I use the OLM like it is diesgned to be used, I go about 7500 miles between changes (5%). Some go well over 10k miles depending on the type of driving you do. I'm in and out of Atlanta everyday, that should tell you my driving.

The engine would be the last thing to worry about. The suspension, wheel bearings, axles, transmission would likely need work first. More than the average number of brake jobs is also likely.

But the 2.2L in the HHR is not the same motor. The S10 had the old pushrod 2.2; ours is a DOHC. I would expect the HHR motor to be more durable, and have heard of only a handful of major engine issues.

My dad still has the cavalier with the 2.2, replaced the leaky water pump, but other than that no problems at all after almost 200,000 km.
