TWM Performance short shifter.

I have been wanting to get a short shifter for my HHR for awhile now. Through a little research I discovered TWM Performance makes one for our cars. There add claims a reduction of throw by 38%, which is just what I am looking for. So I gave them a call today and talked to the TWM representative about buying and installing one. (The shifters are designed to fit the Cobalt's and apparently they are very popular with that crowd.) I was told they have only sold a couple of them to HHR owners and so they don't have instillation instructions for the shifter yet. However, other than the removal of the center counsel it installs just like the Cobalt.

I could not resist and bought one from them. Also for a small discount I agreed to provide them with pictures and a description of my HHR shifter install. To anyone that is interested I will post my results as soon as I get it installed.

I wonder why their site says....."(Note: Only fits 2006 Chevrolet HHR)"?

Because they say the only model year they have installed the shifter into thus far is the 2006.

I have not tried an SS shifter. But from what I have read I think the TWM short shifter throws would be similar. The TWM may be a little shorter.

The shifter has arrived and after 2 1/2 hours it is installed.

It does every thing I thought it would. Very pleased.

It took me a little time figuring out how the counsel and shifter came apart. I could have easily chopped off 1 hour of that time. TWM has no instructions for the HHR, just the Cobalt. However, they will soon after they get my picture and directions.

The shifter works like a dream. The quality is outstanding and the knob really makes it feel solid. The throws must be about 40% less which makes the shifts much more positive, sorta has a notchy feel to it. I really like that.

I will post some picture as soon as I figure out how to make them fit the 97 megabite size. If anyone can help let me know.

Compare the TWM to the stock shifter

The top shifter is the TWM shifter and the the bottom one is the stock one.
If you notice the ball of the TWM is higher changing the pivot point and making the throw shorter.

How does the SS shifter compare?
I would love to see this picture with all three side by side.
