After looking for a silver that would be a close match, I gave up. They all seemed to bright as the original finish was more of a darker silver. I finally decided to go with a color that was also metallic but had a little more brown in it. It is a Duplicolor Pewter Metallic. BGM0490. It reminds me of a color that Pontiac would have used for its' trim.

This is the same door from earlier posts. I removed each door card, taped off the long trim and got to sanding. The scratch is now gone. The finger pull I removed from the door card so masking was easier. I think it looks great in person. It is a more calming color.

The dipping process would have been over the top both in expense and effort. It is near impossible to remove the trim without breaking it. Each door card was only off the car about an hour. Sorry for the reflections.

Nice job, I did a grille and exterior door handle paint job in that pewter colour , it looks very nice , did you clear coat it ?

Guitar Builder 06-26-2019 08:10 PM

I didn’t clear coat it. I liked the luster of the paint right from the can. I tested a scrap piece with clear coat and it was too glossy.

I did satin clear coat, from Duplicolor,

I just found where the codes are supposed to be. The shop manual thinks the interior trim, exterior WAxxxx paint code and special order paint numbers are supposed to be in that big blank area under the "water based" statement.

I forgot to mention that I also did the steering wheel trim. Very easy to get off.

Nice! What about the waterfall? I’ve got one painted already, but it probably won’t match your pewter
