My Running Board Update

Well, I got my boards from my mom when she bought her HHR. She added another set to her loan.

I asked the dealer if they would AT LEAST paint and install them since they wouldn't work with me about the damage in any other way....they said no.

So, I called GM. Thanks to my GM rep, I will have the boards painted and installed.

Only road block now is that the dealer won't paint the damaged area like the TSB suggests (they don't have to follow a TSB). So, was on the phone again with my GM rep and she is going to let me know about painting the damaged area by tomorrow or Friday.

Sigh...what a pain in the butt, eh? LOL

At least they are taking SOME responsibility for their mistake in training their sales personnel.

That was a novel approach, never thought about asking MOM for parts for the Beautiful One.
And she got one too, CONGRATS...

I am sure that if GM approved the free boards and install, they will also approve painting of the affected areas. Seems to me this dealer is going out of their way to avoid doing TSB's sent out by GM. The TSB on the sandblasting clearly states that the fix is a one-time paint job of the affected area and installation of the boards to cut down on further damage.

If it were me, I'd be switching dealers once this is over. If they are going to fight you any time you take your HHR in to be addressed for a problem, it's not worth the aggravation in my opinion. What do they think the TSB's are for...reading material while they sit on the can?

SHe did not get free boards, her mom bought them when when she bought another HHR. Extra set if you will.

I just hope you didn't buy the second HHR at the same dealership......

I should have typed my statement a little clearer. I realize her mom paid the the boards, which is great and very cool. However, what I meant to say is that if GM agreed to PAINT & INSTALL the boards for free...getting the TSB addressed by them as well, shouldn't be a problem.

Don't have to follow the TSB? What the hell kind of dealership is that???

I'd be running away from that place..sounds like they are bent at you already for going over them and having GM force their hand (which is the right thing to do)

Angel.....

Your dealer is being a jerk, for whatever reason.

Although TSB 06-08-51-002, Paint and/or Body Damage on Rocker Panels, states, "...implementation of this Service Bulletin requires case by case review and approval by the Area Service Manager prior to the performance of any repairs.", all the dealers have complied with the writing (once approved by the Area Manager). I believe you indicated previous contact and approval of the Area Manager. So, the paint work for the EXISTING DAMAGE should be covered....the painting of the "steps" is nebulous. You probably should recontact him and attempt to work it out.

Even discuss the idea of utilizing another dealer with him.

Hey, good luck....you are having a real "time" with this.

OK....GM is making them paint the damaged area.

My mom did buy the car at the same dealership. She is having problems with her headrest DVD players, but not because of the dealership, but because of CarToys. They installed the wrong ones then tried to put some in that didn't match her leather in the car.

Soooo.....the dealership (not I nor Mom) said "NO" and told them to put the crap ones back in until they can get the right ones to match her seats. They are doing a good job at making her happy.

They also were quick to repair damage they caused to my hood because an idiot technician left a tool on top of the engine and put a dent in my hood. They also fixed the dent that was in my hood that came with the car when I got it.

They were just adament about NOT fixing the running board issue. UGH! Well at least all is well now, eh?
