Need help with 2 engine codes

2011 2.2L with 105,000 miles. Oil level is full and has 5,000 miles on it (Mobil 1 Full synth with M1 Filter).

Symptoms started about a month ago while sitting at a light or drive through the engine would stutter and then try to surge ahead even with my foot on the brake. It was almost like it was starving for fuel but then a quick burst.

About 10 days ago the engine light came on, so I scanned and the only code was a P0014. I cleared the code and it remained off for about 1000 miles.

Now the light is back on but now I am getting a P0013 code.

Is changing the CMP actuator the typical fix here?

Suggestion for first place to start appreciated.
Thanks!

Get a cup of coffee or your favorite beverage because it's a fairly long thread.
BUT. It has some great info.

Indeed. That thread was the one that brought me to this forum. Many people have had those codes or the 10/11 equivalent. Buy said part numbers at local auto parts store, you may be able to price match off rock auto or Amazon, and follow through with the repair. Literally requires removal of air box, two bolts on the solenoids, and maf/solenoid connectors. Be careful with those locking tabs on the solenoids! Also if you don't have an air compressor get some canned air to blow away all the dirt and or bugs that collected under there so you don't risk any of it falling into the holes when you pull the solenoids out. Very easy job!

For the record: they are called "VVT valves" in most parts books. Don't say "CMP actuator" you won't get the right part; it has nothing to do with the CMPs (camshaft position sensors).

I would change the solenoid valve and see if it fixes it before changing the actuator.
