need some help finding something
I have a project in the works that deals with putting stuff on top of the dash cubby. I still will have access to the cubby however im thinking at its going to be a little heavy and wont hold itself open any more. Ive been looking for something that would work but have failed to find anything yet. I was thinking something like the hatch struts that hold it open but on a much smaller scale, any one know of such a product? Any suggestions on what to use?

I would look for small elbow braces that are used in jewelry boxes, try Home Depot or Lowes and you could look up jewelry box hardware on line. Good Luck

or try your local hobby shop that deals with r/c cars or planes..the "shock" or actuater you speak of is a common application in R/c plane 1:5 scale landing gear..if u want to get really funky go electric actuater(princess auto)if u have those in the states..

this looks like it could get expensive. Going from spending 20 bucks for every thing to about 100 depending on which kind of strut or even some of the jewelry box hardware. Might just have to wait on finding the right solutions to this problem. Luckily I dont use the cubby to much to begin with so holding it open for a sec to either get the sunglasses out or in wont be to big of an issue, and should be able to live with it for awhile till I can figure this out. Thanks for you input and if any one else has any ideas please let me know. I should be starting on this tonight or tomorrow and depending on how things go should be done in a week or so, and then will share the results.

spring-load it. It'll make it easier to open too.

Another problem I have ran into is color. Im doing a bit of modding parts and putting things together so It will need to be painted. Now I was was just going to paint it white to match the outside and some parts on the inside, however the wife has said no to that thinking its going to look tacky. So know Ive run into trying to match the color of the dash, any help with this one? Then again maybe this is a way to get her to let me smooth the dash and just paint it black. Think it will work? |
Don't make it shiny...with the angle its at it'll reflect all sorts of light
