New Ham-in-a-Can :D

As mentioned in another thread, and I didn't want to hijack it, I'm a recent Ham Technician (yeah, it goes great with Swiss).

A good friend and I spent a couple hours this morning working out what appears to be a pretty well arranged installation of my Yaesu ft7900r, if I may say so myself. Unfortunately, I didn't do a build video, which would have been great Youtube fodder. I did take a couple pics of the finished installation.
Behold....

(edited to add pics directly to post. Thanks, donbrew! Hadn't done it in a while and am a bit rusty) :)

I may make a protective cage for the T/C unit, just to keep any loose cargo from bumping into it.

Does it need to be accessible? There is lots of room behind the quarter panel. Or in one of The storage bins, I find them totally useless.

Ham in a can

Your installation looks good. I agree with a cage for the unit to protect it. Hiding it in the storage or behind the quarter panel could be a heat problem if it gets hot with lots of use or higher power. Thanks for the info. W2XN

I really like the "stealth" location.

What kind of metal did you use for the bracket? Or did the bracket come with the unit?

Very clean installation.

Kudos!

The bracket came with it, and yeah, heat was tbe primary reason it's external. I figure if it needs the fan and massive heatsinks I'd better play it safe.

The radio amp lives in the driver's side without any heat issues.

In the future I may mount it hidden with a temp sensor. If it doesn't protest I would rather have it more protected. I'd like it out for the moment, though.
