Smile No Auto Start w/ my automatic

my car didn't come with the automatic start, even though it is said to be a standard feature when you upgrade to an automatic. And also, does anyone know if the keys come with a chip or not. i know some other cars have a chip in the key that the ignition reads for security purposes. & this is my first post by the way. i just got my HHR 2 weeks ago and i LOVE it!!! But anyways, can anyone explain this stuff 2 me? thanks

Welcome

If your car doesn't have remote start with an auto trans., it was probably built for a rental fleet.

Your key should have a small circle with a + in the center just below the black head. That indicates a chip is in the key.

Hi There,Ill be the 1st to help you...

When I first got Wheelie (My Blue HHR) from the dealership, the auto start feature was disabled, so the dealer turned it on and Wheelie could start automatically, it could be that your auto start feature has been turned off, and U may need to turn it on..here is how:

1)Turn on our HHR to ON

2) press and hold the little Menu button and the left downward arrow button on the steering wheel for 3 seconds, you should see OIL LIFE RESET on the DIC

3) keep pressing the MENU botton till u see AUTO START on the display. (or something simular to it)

4)press the left arrow botton to turn that feature ON

5)now turn off your HHR and on your key fob, press the LOCK button. (u may want to get out of the car for this part)

6)within 2 seconds of you pressing the Lock button, you must press the little uncompleted circle botton on your key fob, the TOP center button and hold it for 2 seconds

7) Your Beloved HHR should turn ON automatically for you.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Ours has the remote start but after the novelty wore off, in a few days, my Wife has never used it again. And we've had ours for almost 2 years now.

Remote start does have entertainment potential if you stand off in the distance and wait until someone walks past your car and you see them looking at it-- hit the remote start and freak them out.

I do that all the time. The other day a lady replied to me as I walked out to the car "Did you see that , this car just cranked up and no one was in it..." I love it will keep doing it just to see the reaction..

Sorry I almost forgot.. Welcome to the Forum, you will love it here..

My remote doesn't even have a button for it. Just lock, unlock, and alarm.
