Onstar Capabilities with 08
Onstar Capabilities with 08
Don't know why it took days for Onstar to tell me that my HHR is not phone app compatible. All I really want it to be able to track the vehicle. It looks like I need to buy an after market device. They told me the 08s didn't have the remote lock/unlock/start feature connected to Onstar.
Anybody know of any hacks or alternatives? I look at the older posts, but didn't see anything that applied. Thanks

Have you looked at your Owner Manual? Look at my sig before you say you don't have one.
It says you can use their telephone service or Verizon; that was true in 2008 I don't know if things have changed. It also says that remote door unlock is available, at extra charge.
If you upgrade the unit to a 2009 with Bluetooth... That seems to be a plug and play thing, the units are all over the place at junkyards Every GM vehicle had it in some years.

Many owners back then, did not want Onstar , it was like big brother was watching able to track the whereabouts of the HHR, unlock it from afar and remote start or disable the engine, very Sci-fi stuff.
There’s probably more information about disabling Onstar back then.

Hey everyone, I’m C J. I’ve been working on cars since I was 16, with most of my background rooted in Ford and Chrysler platforms. Over the years, I’ve done everything from troubleshooting and upgrades to OEM-style retrofits that manufacturers didn’t always offer from the factory.
On the Ford side, that’s included adding features like SYNC systems into Interceptor model vehicles. With Chrysler products, I’ve handled full factory-style upgrades—such as converting a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo into a Limited, complete with factory Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, OEM backup camera, and XM integration.
I’m currently transitioning over to GM platforms and looking forward to applying that same OEM-plus mindset and hands-on experience here. I’m here to learn, share knowledge, and contribute wherever I can.I realize this thread is dated, but I’m hoping someone may still see this reply and point me in the right direction. I have limited experience with OnStar systems; however, I’ve successfully performed Bluetooth module swaps and upgraded several GM vehicles to the 4G LTE module.
Does anyone know where I can find the connector pinouts for a 2008 Chevy HHR LT equipped with the OnStar UE1 system—specifically for connectors X1, X2, and X4? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I’m happy to share any results or progress I make in return.
Thanks in advanced. - CJ

If you are looking for an aftermarket tracking device (that also will send you any MIL codes), I am using a device called BOUNCIE. It plugs into the OBD II port and it works well. It can be unplugged and plugged into other cars as needed. Tracking is updated about every 10 seconds or so.

no im looking for the pinout for UE1 plugs X1,X2 and X4 so i can see about retrofiting an upgrade to install 4G LTE VCIM as i have already installed this upgrade in a 2007 Suburban and a 2006 DTS as well as a 2010 Lucerne. my 2008 HHR is my current project vehicle.
The link in my sig covers ALL makes and models. If you can't see the links scroll down to the bottom of the page and click view full site, or something like that.
