Passenger CV axle problems

07 2.4 auto trans.

Took out driver side CV axle with no problem, how ever the stub on passenger side, did not come out with the half shaft.

So now I'm stuck, researching on how to remove it from the transmission.

Tips or links while I'm searching are aprecaiate.

I didn’t remove mine, it stayed in the transmission case. I just put the new axle in

I stupidly didnt research before tackling this task....

so I did too, since the stub stayed inside transmission I just swapped to a new CV axle.. but now the passenger side CV axle does not spin when in gear

If the one you removed looked like this the stub DID come out. I don't know how it is possible to not turn if the stub is in.

That part did not come out with the CV axle, so I put new axle on just like driver side..

Then with it still in air I put the hhr into gear, only the driver side spun.

Am I thinking this totally wrong, or am I correct in thinking that only one axle will turn (in this case the drivers side) while it is in the air? It isn't posi-traction or a locked diff.

Yes, if it's an automatic, only one wheel will spin when both are off the ground.

So im not crazy, it shouldn't be spinning yet.

That just leaves the clunk noise now, inside transmission where the CV axle goes in, still on passenger side.

Can you turn it by hand?

Please , stop turning the axles while suspended on jack stand, you could damage the new CV axles.
They are not meant to turn at that angle.
