Premium Gas for 2.4 Engine...
 

Well everyone, I have had Car 11 (2LT with the 2.4 engine) now for four weeks. I've put 1782 miles in four short weeks. The first few gas fill-ups were with 87 Octane. The last two fill ups have been with 93 Octane. Guess what? There truly is a difference in performance. Today, once again, I had to speed up to get on the freeway and Car 11 really took off. So I am sold on putting 93 Octane in Car 11. It really does make a difference. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Oh yes, I know you are probably sick of hearing me say this, but I will repeated it again...THE REAR SWAY BAR REALLY MAKES A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE IN HANDLING!! :thumb:

I felt the same way about the premium when I started using it at around 1200 miles, but then I also wonder if it isn't just the fact that the engine is loosening up more as the miles get added on. I've got 2700 miles on mine now and still using premium but the price of it is really getting up there now, might switch back.

I have used nothing but regular in mine, now with 7000 miles. If I was worried about performance, I would have bought a fast car.;)

I've got 32 miles on mine. Not quite broke in yet.:lol: think the dealer filled it with 87 yesterday. I'm going to call tomorrow and ask what they put in.

I've only used 87--gas in CA is very expensive. But, I noticed a difference with 87 only in where I got the gas. I used to just go to ARCO, the least expensive, then the local Costco opened a gas station and I started going there. What a difference! Performance felt better and I swear my mileage was better too.

So does where you get the gas just as important? Or am I crazy :lol: ??!!

unfortunately, around here...91 octane is the highest grade they sell. I have only put 89(mid grade) in it, and I am getting close to 30 mpg average, and Distance to Empty is 473 miles.

not only do you get better performance with a higher octane...but you get better mileage. Part of the reason is the knock sensor. if you run lower grade fuel, the knock sensor will pull timing out at any hint of detonation...this decreases performance...

so...better gas = better mileage and performance. Higher cost, mind you...but in the end, you will go farther between fill ups, so it really doesnt cost you any more money.

pay now...or pay later...or more often...but with the good stuff, you can PLAY!

I have 33,5xx miles on my pup.

I know my sister insists the mid-grade is best for her 07 Tahoe, but that's a V8.

Well, I just filled Blackie up today--but I'll try the 91 next time around and see if I notice a difference--it'll take a couple of fill up's to clear it out (still a bargain at Costco!).

there's one catch...more performance means you might actually throttle it a little more...and there goes the improved gas mileage:lol:

Been using 87 since day one and fill up with 93 every fifth tank. I have over 50K on my ride and can still tell the difference in the grades of gas.

The car sounds "smoother" with the higher octane. I guess when gas gets to $4.50 I will have to rethink this.
