Question for first year owners

When the HHR first came out My wife and I went and test drove an LT and found it to be very noisy. The motor noise under acceleration was like there was a large hole in the firewall. The salesman's answer was turn up the radio. We went to another dealer, drove another, and it too had excessive engine noise! This year when we test drove the 2007 LT we liked it so much we bought it. I was curious if anyone else had run into this. Maybe this was a problem that was fixed mid-year?

Dory was an early run 1st model, nothing out of the ordinary as far as engine noise.

I have a 2006 as well, and would not consider the engine noise excessive at all. In fact I think it is rather quiet.

I'm a noise nut. Our '06 is noisierthan our Buick Rainier was, but quieter than our Honda Odyssey. Our Pontiac Vibe was quite a bit noisier than our HHR.

The HHR is not a premium car, but a second to the bottom car base outfitted with some nice workmanship that works wonders in many ways. That the car is as quiet as it is, at its price point is quite an accomplishment.

All that said, I have not driven an '07 but I cannot imagine much difference unless Chevy put more soundproofing material somewhere and did not let us know.

The noise level in my HHR is 'comfortable'.
I probably could`ve gotten something sound/noise proof, but my money was in this range...:D

I only hear it while accelarating. It kind of sounds like a sports car. However, the HHR is much more quiet on the interstate than what I was used to. I can actually have a conversation with the person next to me. I have not driven an '07 to compare them.

Iamaphinespelrr, be sure to go to the SE regional page and have Karen put you on the list of Floridians with HHRs. Welcome to the site and enjoy your new ride!

My 06 1LT has less noise than the 01 S 10 that I traded off. I am very pleased with the noise level of it.:thumb:

I don't find the noise excessive at all on the HHR. If I wanted something that was super quiet, I would have saved my money and bought something that was a ton more money and not near as fun. Actually, they don't have to be a ton more money...many of the newer mid priced cars I've ridden have the same amount of noise...especially the 4 cylinders. This is a great car for the money and I couldn't be happier with my investment.

I agree with courthousedeb that the noise level is not excessive at all. As a matter of fact i plan on putting on dual exhaust for some noise.!!!!!!

Hiiii

If I may stick my 2 cents, I have a 2007 LT in Blue. Tomorrow it will be a week old :p:

I love the vehicle. As far as the noise, there is some but nothing to the point of tunring up the radio volume !

I had 8 and 6 cyclinder cars all my life and this is the first 4 cylinder I own. I am pleasantly surprised by the comfort and quiet ride on the highway !!! It rode as smooth as my Sable !

Steve
