Rear fender guards

Hey, all -- my HHR had dealer-installed rear fender covers/guards (probably because it didn't have running boards) -- but I just ordered running boards that should arrive in a couple of days.

Should I have the dealer remove the fender guards? Will they even do this? I am assuming they are "glued" to the fenders. I think they look like hell, and since they'll no longer have any real functional use, I want them off. Am I risking serious damage to the paint to have them removed? If not, and if the dealer won't do it, can anyone tell me how to remove them myself? Has anyone out there already done this?

Thanks!

I think those stay on even with the running boards. Buddy of mine at the body shop said to leave them on, he's already had to deal with a couple with major rock chips in that area of the car.

My HHR was ordered wih running boards (dealer installed), and did not have the fender guards on when I picked it up.

Just my $0.02.

Nah, not over fender guards. Wait until it's something a little bit more fun.

Same here. But there was that one odd purple HHR around here that had both.

Hey, Mike -- wanted to thank you for the lightning fast (free) shipping of the stubby antenna I ordered -- what a huge improvement over the fishing rod. Thanks, man.

This whole discussion happened earlier this year, Technobunie, had problems with hers coming, off. If I remember right, they were glued/taped in some fasion. She got running boards and wanted the guards pulled, I don't remember the outcome. She checks in fairly often and will probaly reply.

Mine with running boards did not have them, I have not had any dings there. But I am in a mild climate. Gald they are not there!!!!

HHRster like the picture with your sign on, either 48 or 47 Chevy, can't remember, one year had the additional Bar going up and down on the grill and one did not. I believe that is a 48, with the bar.

Later

I live in a pretty nasty climate and haven't had any chips or dings there. But then again not only do I have the running boards but the molded splash guands also.
