Reg vs Synthetic Oil

I already did my first oil change, but I remember seeing somewhere in the forum about waiting till about 7500 miles to do a change over to synthetic, if you were going to do so.

What I am basically looking for is which is better/recommended to use for the car overall

I would appreciate any input on this

I've been here long enough to know that this is a matter or preference and you're opening up a huge can of worms. I used to have a Tacoma and every couple of weeks someone would ask this question. I have 2 things to say to this.

1- use the search feature. Your question is in there.
2- Mobile 1 is more widely used.

I recommend that you don't switch to synthetic no earlier than your second oil change. It's also the recommendation from General Motors. You basically need your engine to break-in before switching to synthetic. I don't know about the 7500 miles thing. Engine break-in is more than just milage.

I haven't done my second oil change yet, but it's going to be mobile one. I've used it on my last car (1995 Acura Itegra) and had no issues with it. My Integra had 170,000 miles on it before selling it.

I switched my 98 Z28 to Mobil One at 3500 miles.
I think it's good stuff, I've had several new cars over the years and they all had their first oil change with the syn.

I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic at 1100 miles with the blessing of the dealership. I called and asked them if there would be a problem with it and they said absolutely not. In fact, they did the oil change for free too.

When I was looking to switch from dino to synthetic, I was told to wait until after the second oil change just to allow the rings to properly seat, etc.

I did my switch to synthetic at about 8,300 miles.

I just got my oil analysis back on my first run of synthetic and it was a very good analysis; low wear, very clean engine internally.

If it really is a problem to switch your new car to synthetic then why do cars like the Corvette come from the factory filled with Mobil1?

My 2007 Z06 was run at the factory for 20 minutes on brake in oil and changed to Moble1 from the start. The oil is changed every year,57 % and 3,596 miles. and my friends I hammer that baby hard. Thats what it was built for. So all this about when too, Corvette does from the start!!! 1FASVET
