my hhr is a hand-me-down 2006 lt. It had remote start years ago when my mom was the primary driver but she damaged and then lost the key fob and I was unable to program a new one I purchased. I followed the drivers manual instructions. Should I have a locksmith/dealership program a new one?

Not sure how you tried to program your fob. Nothing in my owners manual on how to program a fob. The manual says you must take it to a dealer/retailer to have it programmed.

 

Welcome to the site, check your brake lights, if any are burnt out the remote start won’t work.

as for key fobs , Dorman offers a kit with a programmer to vin match to your car. An OEM fob is best, but hard to find . If you have a Dorman fob programmer, check eBay for the correct fob fo your HHR

 

Anything you read on the interwebs is cut and paste B.S. The only way to match a fob is with some sort of computer interface. A dealership or some locksmiths or get the Dorman interface, it will work for any fob that is correct for HHR.

 

I just purchased a doorman interface made for 2006-11s. "Dorman 13736" is the specfic title. Thank you for your help!
