Remote Start w/AC

Don't flip out if this has been covered before ( I looked but didn't see it) - Is it OK to keep your AC in the on position when shutting off your engine to take advantage of cooling off the car with the remote start? I just remember growing up I was always told to shut the AC off before you turn the engine off...

Thanks.

It does not matter where your controls are set on the vehicle. When using the Remote Start the system determines what will operate. If it's cold, the heater will run, if hot then the A/C. Once you insert the key and turn to run position all will revert to the actual settings on all controls.

even with my A/C unit left on if I use the remote start it doesnt come on. It will only come on once the key is turned to the on postion.

I have to set the a/c or heater to the setting I want when I hit the remote start.. At least My HHR is not a Smart car that I know of.

Haven't used remote start in a while but I think on my '07 I have to have the A/C or heat on when I park and shut down in order for it to come on when the HHR is started by remote.

the only way to have the a/c stay on when using the remote start would be to go aftermarket....

Yes.
I usually have the AC on all the time and sometimes forget to turn it off--so it's a wee bit too cold some mornings when I get in!

Same with the heater...not the heated seats though--but can't remember the last time I used those anyhow

What ever fan speed and climate setting that the A/C is left on when turning the car off, will resume during any start whether by remote or key. The only thing that will not be left as is would be the "recirculate air" function......it will always default to "fresh air" mode.

On my SS if I leave the AC on it comes on with the remote start. Same thing with the heater too. I wish it would be the recirc. instead but only the regular A/C.

If your car has been sitting in the sun and the interior is heat-soaked, then normal fresh air setting will cool it off inside faster than recirc, basically anytime the OAT (Outside Air temperature) is lower than the interior temp the normal setting will cool better.
