Rural Living and Critter Issues
 

I live in a rural area and critters :mouse: can be a problem. Wondering if anyone has tips on how to keep the critters from going under the hood and chewing on wires...

Any tips would be appreciated :mouse:

I used to live outside of town. I found that my old Excel .16 gauge worked quite well for permanently discouraging most animals from messing around with my vehicles. Getting a clean shot that would not damage the vehicles or buildings was tough sometimes though.

Also cleaning out the garage and actually putting the car inside helped a lot. For the smaller critters that liked to be in the relatively warm garage, I fed them liberally with rat poison and had traps all over the place.

You might not believe how many possums I caught inside the garage. Through the fall I would get at least one a week sometimes more.

I also had a four legged, ball bearing animal trap,... named Fletcher who really liked chasing the critters even if he didn't always catch them. He was a German shepherd mix.

Get a cat!!!

Years ago I found my ignition wires shorting out on my Avenger. I showed them to the auto parts store guy and asked what would cause this?

- Rat!!!

~ How do you know it was a rat?

- I had the same problem - rats got under the hood and ate almost everything.

~ how did you resolve it?

- Moved.

No critter problems here. Just that stray Rottweiler that chewed up the front of my wife's Hyundai trying to get our cat.
If that dog ever comes back, he will be introduced to my Ruger Mini 30 or my newly acquired S&W 15-22.

Property is fairly old.....not sure of the life span of a mouse or rat :lol:

If it's "Mr. Jingles", the mouse from the movie The Green Mile, then it could be pretty old. :lol:

one of the things we did,was to put bars of irish spring soap in our collector cars when we put them in the garage and leave them there until spring.also we stuff sheets of bounce in and around the motor seemed to take care the of the mice problem.hope this helps. len
