I deal with copyright issues everyday because of my business.

My first impression would be that it would be illegal unless express permission was gotten to post it.

I know for a fact that libraries have been sued just for posting a copy of a book's table of contents on line with out permission. Just owning something does not give you the legal right to re-distribute it.

Here is the easiest way I know to give an example. Say you have a large extended family and made a group decision to subscribe to TV Guide, just one. Then just make copies or post it on a family site or newsletter for all to use. This is illegal.

I'd say the chances of getting permission to post this manual would either be very expensive or impossible to get. I'd recommend contacting the publisher and asking them. Intellectual property/copyright lawyers can be very expensive. I know we've had to hire them for very similar questions.

Please keep in mind I'm no legal expert. I've just had to deal with this issue for my company and our clients.

Hope this helps.

I'd be willing to bet that buying a copy for "group" useage is doable. I'd also be willing to bet that the cost would end up being very pricey. The only way to find out is going to be talking to Helm.

Almost my entire thoughts, also. But before attempting to contact someone at the publisher, we need this Forum's approval....or it is for naught !!

what we did on b15sentra.net was we had the service manuals on a club site and the link was posted all over that board. The club site that had the manuals had a tech that worked for nissan and he put it up on the site and posted it for all of us.

Definately a copyright violation! But as many say, "It's only cheating if you get caught!".

We will probably be waiting a long time for a chilton manual. There arent enough HHRs out there yet, and arent old enough to need a rebuild. They need to sell a ton to make it worth their while.
