The rear antenna is the XM antenna.

Are there any better reception XM antenna that work for HHRs?
Mine cuts out on hills, between trees, etc..
Sometimes it only semi-cuts out, usually at the punch-line of a joke on Red Dog Comedy - mg thing!
I bet at those times it wouldn't cut out if it had a better antenna

Aren't the windshields more expensive to replace then?? My parents had a 2000 venture wb edition and if I remember right the onstar antenna/stuff was in the windshield.

XM uses the XM/Onstar antenna that's located on the back of the roof. The front antenna is for AM/FM only.

That is what XM is - satellite, direct line of sight! And one of the best reasons I do not have it. In my area there are way too many trees and it was cutting out all the time. Also under passes were a big hassle when at stop lights.

I believe you are stuck with the current antenna, or at least the reception. Do to the much higher frequency XM operates on in comparison to AM/FM radio a longer, bigger, better antenna would actually make things worse. I still like the terrestrial FM.

GDZHHR: (I went to the website you provided... Did you get the 2.55"stubby, the 3.5" or 4.5" stubby? The ratings seem to go up with the longer length ones (which makes sense) but if anyone else reads this, how is the reception for the 2.55 inch stubby (which I am interested in)??? (but only gives a 3 out of five star rateing!!) There is also the retractable stubby.
Anyone have one. I am mainly concerned as I live in Florida and (due to the fact I am handicapped) cannot wash my own HHR, but have to go to the car wash. As of now, I have to unscrew the OEM antenna and I figure the stubby will eliminate that problem.
Anyone?????

unless someone on here tells me they absolutly suck
FWIW: I emailed this seller & asked how his stubby compared to the oem.
His reply was that the oem antenna is amplified ? & the stubby won't get as good of reception. But does pretty good.

Needless to say, I haven't bought just yet.

One thing I tried was my OLs' car is an 08 Dodge Avenger SXT & has a rubber (flexable) antenna in rear. It's 8" long & fits perfectly in my HHR.. & She gets good reception..

Wow! A vendor that tells the truth. Yes, the HHR AM/FM antenna is amplified - most vendors would not know that.
