Sport Suspension
Sport Suspension
Hi everyone,
I would normally do a search, but this site is bugging me to post.. So I am..
Sold my vehicle in June, been riding my motorbike all summer, and soon winter will be upon us. I am in need of a new vehicle and this HHR seems to be talking to me and my wallet, but I have a question.
sport suspension -> is there an appreciable difference between this and the standard suspension ? if so what is it ? A long time ago, I had an 88 Olds cutlass Supreme SL with the FE3 suspension, and couldn't believe how well it took the corners. Is it the same with the HHR ?
Thanks in advance ..

First of all a BIG Texas
to the site I'm sure your going to enjoy all the friendly members as well as the great information available here. As for sports suspensions even though the HHR isn't a sports car, and depending on your ride preference your going to get a much better sport like ride with this suspension. I have a 2007 LS 2.2 without the sports suspension and I tend to like a stiffer ride. I do notice at higher speeds on these local hill country roads that the suspension lacks in the recovery and I tend to over steer a bit coming out of sharper curves. The car doesn't feel lose but has a bit more body roll then I like. I'd say go to the dealer and test drive both models and see what feels right for you. Also there are after market suspension kits available now for our HHRs, others here can point you in a direction to what they like and have done to beef up their rides. I'd be willing to bet you can find a HHR with a factory suspension at a fair price that you will be happy with.

Welcome aboard.
I have driven HHR's with both suspension types. So when I bought mine, I got the sport suspension package because I believe that it does ride better than the LS I drove. That being said, I believe that the sport suspension package is really only gas shocks. I know that when I added a sway bar to my car there was very little difference in the ride or handling characteristics. IMHO, I think the sport suspension option is a plus if you plan to "exercise" your HHR. I also think that a person could buy one without the sport suspension, and probably add the necessary components to get the same ride, at a lower cost.

Yes you can, lowering springs in rear to let it set even, new sway bars front and rear, good shocks

Hey golph, I have an HHR with the sports suspension. I must say that the suspension is pretty firm. I haven't necessarily done too much spirited driving put I've put it through some nice high speed twisties out on highway 1A between Cochrane and Exshaw (by the Stoney Reserve) and it handled quite well. In everyday driving, you will feel most every bump and expansion joint out there. Over the last two months I've driven a couple loaner vehicles while my car was in the body shop (Cobalt, Montana and Uplander) and was really surprised with how much smoother the ride was in those in everyday driving.
I also drove both suspensions and I noticed a little difference. The sport suspension seemed a little firmer and jarred you a little more when you hit a pothole rather than the bouncy touring suspension. The touring suspension felt super bouncy to me. I think the larger rims of the 2LT also played a factor in my conclusion about hitting potholes though.

Your best bet is to try both. I went from a 4/6 dropped full size. Both felt soft to me.
Neither is a true sport suspension. I test drove a 2LT and bought a 1LT. I think If I was blindfolded, I would not be able to identify one from the other.
The sport should at least come with a rear stablizer bar IMO. Hell, my wife's minivan has that.

to the site!!! The best thing for you to do is drive one with and without the sport suspension and see for yourself
