Test drive both before you make your decision, but looking at photos I would say go with the 2008 for a few reasons.

2008 looks like a 2LT (leather seats, xm - should have a rear antenna too, sunroof, etc)
Has the chrome package (chrome wheels, mirrors and grille)
IF THEY'RE BOTH 2.2L motors - the 2008 should have more HP
It's black - I'm a little biased, but nothing looks better than a clean black car.

It's looking like the 2008 has a few more bells and whistles, which you might regret not having if you went with the 2006.

Ask them for a carfax report to make sure neither one has been in an accident, and confirm the 2008 has a 2.2L and not a 2.4. If it has a 2.4, try to haggle $1000-$1500 off the price and go for it!

Good luck with the HHR Hunt!

thanks. i test drove the 2008 today and forgot to look what engine it had. the black one had a "special edition" badge on the rear liftgate

The blue one has the 2.4
The black one has the 2.2 , in the description it states it is a 1lt. Make sure the sunroof works properly. Check all the power equipment.

VIN digit 8 D is 2.2L
VIN digit 5/6 A2 is 1LT

A strange combination for a 1LT sunroof 2.2L leather heated seats chrome package.

There is a shark fin antenna.

Personally, I think 2008 is the better year.

Try our search tool to look for problems you should be aware of. LCA, struts, sway bar links & bushings etc.

There was a 2011 with about the same mileage for less money nearby.

You do know that the used car store at a Chevy dealership has no connection to GM, so there is no reason to buy from a Chevy dealership over the guy down the street. They normally don't even send their cars to the GM service department.

The 2008 is the sensible choice, but a daytona blue 2.4 manual would be my choice. :D

I'm a little confused by the ad and pictures for the 2008. Ad says 5 speed but the pictures seem to show an automatic shifter and brake pedal.
Also looks to be the SS style rear spoiler and the running boards seem to actually be the SS style side "skirts"( if I'm looking correctly) and not boards.

Not sure if these mods are because it's a special edition or if the previous owner did them.

Good catch, FMG. '08 says auto in 1 spot and manual in another. '06 says manual. Both are autos, so if you're looking for a manual trans, keep looking!

DIESAHL 08-07-2016 05:34 AM

i would like a manual but the wife cant drive one. and i will check out the 06 to make sure what engine it has( its 2 hrs away so i am only making phone calls with that dealer fro info even though that might not be the best). and i will check out the problem page. and yeas on the 08 they are "skirts" not boards
