Towing behind Motor home

I just bought the BLUE OX base plate and was wondering if anyone has installed one on there HHR. Looked at the installation instructions doesn't look to bad. I don't know how long it will take to install so I will give it a shot. Any input on installation or towing behind Motor home would be appreciated. This will be my first time towing a car 4 wheels down.

I don't know about the Blue Ox, as I have the Demco on my SS. Tows great behind my 28' 135 hp Isuzu Trek.

Yep, I have a BlueOx base plate on my 07, and have had since it was new. We tow it a lot behind our motor home. Its a great tow car. As far as installaton, I had the base plate installed by a pro, he didn't seem to have much trouble, though he did remove the front bumper assembly for access. What are you doing for brakes? There are a number of states that require a braking system on the tow car. I use a US Gear Unified braking system, its proportional and since its intalled in the car, I only need to plug it in when I hook up. I get a green lite on the dash controller in the motor home and I'm good to go.

I went Blue Ox all the way and am going to use there Patriot Breaking system. I want to have the option of using it on other cars that I may be towing in the future.

The only problem I have with the Patriot is having to place the actuator every time you tow. I know people that have similiar systems, I just didn't want to have to do that every time I hooked up. What I really like about the US Gear system, it uses the cars own power brake system, and maintains vaacum in the system, though, I don't think you can go wrong with BlueOx, I sure like the tow bar etc. The HHR has been an ideal car to tow. I also installed a fuse switch, so I don't have to pull fuse 8 every time. What will you be towing with? We have a forty foot pusher, powered by a Cummins 400. I can not feel any difference with or without the car behind the motor home. I virtually have to look at the rear camera display to know its there. No change in mileage either, always between nine and ten MPG, with or without the car back there.

We just got our new to us 2008 38ft Workhorse 8.1 liter. So far we like it a lot. We had a truck camper for the last 12 years and are getting use to having a little more room. Cant wait to retire and travel more 2 yrs. 5 mo. 22 days but who is counting.
