Post as often as you can without slowing down the build. As much as I enjoy watching your progress I'm really looking forward to the finished car... and a video of it!

Awesome!!!!

I love your build!
I have been thinking of a V8 build myself but I was thinking of something kinda rat rod-ish looking

So much for my "Original" idea

Well I thought I was so smart turning my tie rod ends upside down on the build. I was walking thru the MBZ shop where I work and this car was up on the rack and it caught my eye. Oh well, I guess it works.....Mercedes has been doing this for years.

Don't you love it ---you come up with a brilliant idea and it works so well. Nobody else has seen anything like it and then you learn it has been around before you. I used to work in a hobby shop and a customer was talking about space problems geting around a proposed train layout. I came up with an idea and proposed it to him, putting casters under the legs so he could pull it out and ge behind the table. He built it and it worked great. About a year later we got an old book in about building traintables and on the front cover was a table with casters under it.

But you're still custom building the rack and tie rod connection to the steering knuckle and did not resort to that weird bend in the tie rod!! This MB looks like the tie rod could have been left straight and turned 180 degrees to go into the top of the knuckle connection point

Don't give me ideas like this... Your going to get me in trouble.

Impressive progress so far! I'm amazed how fast this build is coming together!

I'm not familiar with 'Benz suspensions. I get that the tie rod end is to the right but is the lower ball joint in the middle(threads unseen but facing up)? If it is what is the joint to the left?

Worked All Day = 2 door panels

Put in about 7 hours on the car today. Got 2 door panels on. The reason it was so slow was the car was completely dis-assembled for paint.....white to black. We went kind of nuts with paint prep, all doors were not only removed from the car but the doors were completely taken apart. If it could come off the car it was off. So I had to but all the wiring back into the rest of the car...all the lights, door latches, every little piece. We did very little masking. One thing that drives me nuts on a color change is being able to tell that the car was once another color. You won't be able to tell on this car. Only difference is we shot it with Mercedes black instead of GM. It's a little blacker. GM has some other colors in their black formula.

Another thing that took time was running an additional 5 wires in the drivers door panel for the window switches. I'm using SS front door panels (thanks to djPhil) that have the window switches in the doors. There are a hand full of gripes I have about HHR's and the goofy location of the window switches is one of them.

The picture of the rear of the car with the rear door closed is my favorite, it shows the engine. I almost wish I didn't have to put the firewall back in.
