R12 and R22 you need one to use it and buy it

This is quite possibly the DUMBEST thing you could ever purchase for a car that's less than five years old and still under warranty. Leave the A/C alone!

the way i understand it... you need the cert if you service r12 systems... you have to evacuate the the system (took about 40 min on the jag) before recharging... this aslo removes any moisture that may be in the coolant. i remember that there is a HIGH and LOW side... very important which side to add refigerant...

when i went to have the jag serviced... everyone/service center said that i would have to convert to the new coolents... parts and materials about $500... wrong... R12 is still available and cars can be serviced with it at a certified service center (their biggist problem is storing it)... if you are a real outlaw... you can go to some junkyards and evacuate coolant from an old dinosaur. now that s not legal.

r12... freon is controlled

not sure that the newer refrigerants are...

the store shell refill canistar is nothing new... had them in vegas in the 60s... didn t use a guage... used the sight glass... it was full when the bubbles disappeard... things are much more complicated today.

 

You need a cert if you service any A/C system for hire, regardless of the refrigerant used.

R-134a can be purchased by anyone. R-12 and R-22 are legal to sell and use but you must be EPA certified to buy and sell it.
