Water Leaks - Cowl area - 2009's?
Hi Folks, I read the threads about the cowl area leaks due to the rubber diaphragm under the plastic cowl panel (as well as other leak sources). My car hasn't leaked so far. Is this a problem in the '09's? Should I do a "preemptive strike" and go fix that area before it becomes a problem? Many thanks in advance. God bless, Marc

They changed the design so the 08's and after don't have that problem. The "rubber Diaphragm" is no longer.

I feel better already! :-) Thank you.

Water leaks
I have an '09 that I got in August. I had water on the driver's side, front and back, and I had a pool under the drivers seat. The dealer, actually it was an outside contractor that only does water leaks for the dealer, resealed the left side upper cowl seams, (sealer skips), and resealed lower inside inspection cover-water was entering thru front of rocker panel. I had a small problem with wind noise on that side, but that has gone away since the reseal. Just waiting for rain to see if it's ok.

Hope that did it .. If it has a sunroof I would be looking at the drain hose...

Fred's discreption isn't clear to me where to seal up the cowl area. I THINK the sunroof is not responsible. Thanks in advance - David. |
My '06 leaked and it would pool under the passenger floorboard. Took it to the dealer and the replaced the seal between the windshield and hood area. Not sure what it is called, but that stopped the leak. It was also leaking onto some electronics and shorted out my fan somehow

Update Wet Drivers's Carpet
My leak, if it is only one, is the front left sunroof drain. It is plugged and when I poured a cup of water in the drain hole it puddled up under the carpet at the base of the 'A' pillar (driver's door hinge post). I removed the sill and kick panel, peeled the carpet back and found the firewall wet and the channel where the wiring runs to the back of the car full of water.
I am looking for some pics of the drain tube on the left front to fix it. I have only found pics of the right side and the left is a little different. |
I have found the sunroof leak. There is a connector about the middle of the drivers kick panel and the tube ends with a plastic connector that is pointed at the firewall under the clutch pedal. Pour a cup of water in the left front sunroof drain and a cup of water hits the firewall and runs down to the base of the 'A' pillar.
I can't find where to reconnect the drain line. If push comes to shove I will drill a hole in the floorboard at the base of the firewall and run a new line out onto the street to keep my carpet dry! |
I never had one of these apart so I'm not sure where it connects to. Seems that tube would only have a small range of movement so it would have to be in a relatively close proximity. How much carpet have you pulled back and did you remove the kick panel?
