Water Pump Tool

I know that I recall a few people saying that they had replaced their own water pump. What did you use for a water pump sprocket holder. $35 (as much as the new pump) seems awful high for a tool I'll use one time. Are they available for rent somewhere, easily jerry-rigged. I DO NOT want to deal with the chains.

I've been lucky haven't had to R&R water pump yet, maybe Advance Auto or one of those companies have a low cost rent a tool programme, our local Parts Source have that service up here in Ontario

Getting tools for repair from parts stores

Thing I learned about newer vehicles is the parts stores who loan tools don't carry things for the newer cars, seems you have to buy from the dealer. When I did my passenger side front wheel bearing I had to buy from the Dealer but I did buy the brake pads from a parts store AZ brand.

As far as wheel bearings and most other parts check Ebay, you will find them there. The HHR family of cars IS NOT new, the platform and motor are the most used in the world. When you get Dealer parts you get the same crap that came on the car from the factory.

My problem here is that I need to replace my water pump NOW. And nobody stocks the EcoTec tool Advance and Zone want 5-7 days, Ebay will take 4-5 days, all want $30-$40 for the tool. My neighborhood NAPA can get it tomorrow, but I have to buy it for $42. I hate paying large dollars for one time use tools! The pump was $42 at Advance after the 20% discount.

Anyway, everything that can be done without the tool has been done, just 3 more bolts to go!

donbrew. Buy the tool and when you're done sell it. That will at least get you back on the road.
