Website warning! American Car Craft
Stay AWAY from American Car Craft!
I was comparing prices and pieces for the mirror polished stainless steel underhood dress up stuff as they list some items HHR Vendors arent listing so I wanted the part #'s for when I called one to place an order for these pieces I want.
My anti-virus started going off as soon as american car craft fully loaded telling my it just removed a Trojan and all was safe blah blah blah.
It kept popping up saying it removed another trojan and all was Safe.
Well a few seconds later a program was installed behind the Trojans it was trying to install as a Cover for the real Fake program it really wanted to install called HDD Fix.
Suddenly it opens on screen already semi installed looking like a Windows Legit program and wanting to defrag your harddrive.
Adds a shortcut on your desktop for it and you start getting harddrive failure or can't find warning pop ups, Memory overload warnings, and it does not allow your Real .EXE programs to start up.
My Documents it HId my things in it and does some other nasty stuff.
I tried a System Restore to 2 days prior and it was gone, or so it looked, it just Recreates itself and you start all over.
My son and I searched and found out more about it and he had some programs that we used to Completely remove this Virus.
It took a couple of steps to finally RID my laptop of it, and so far (fingers crossed here) we got it out.
So american car crafts servers must have been hacked to Hit anyone visiting their website, be aware.
If anyone has their Contact Info, please inform them of their Problem.

I am using McAfee total, with 3 licenses for my laptop and 2 PC's.
My son says it throws the "Trojan" out there so it Tricks your antivirus to Stop that, while Installing the other as it see's it as a Normal Program YOU are starting and running so it allows it.
He knows more about this stuff than I as he writes code and stuff.
My son says this is listed as just hitting the web on January 3rd 2011.
Has different varients and he thinks it is a new type version of and older scam that loaded you up then tossed bogus warnings to get you to Buy their clean up program, and it didn't clean the crap out at all, just took your money.
He also said some of the Major antivirus programs won't even see or report it as a problem at all.
I was at american car craft a week ago and saw nothing at all popping up.
I got the part numbers I wanted, so I won't be heading back there anytime soon here.
Now just waiting on a Sale to place my order for the mirror polished SS underhood pieces I want.

It's older than Jan 3rd 2011 and a bytch to get rid of........ Use Malwarebytes to be sure you got rid of it. It's not necessaily American Car Craft, this malware is hidden in ads so it could be there one time but not the next, just depends on what ad loads when you visit the site.

I got the Jan 3rd info from him, he was reading a website about it and supposedly this particular version just hit the web, again.
Like I stated earlier, there are other versions the one I got hit with was just the latest in the line.
And yes it is a B!tch to get rid of it.
From ADs or whatever, I know for a fact, I was Only on that website at the time and got HIT, don't care if it was ads or not, it was still from being on Their site. I won't be visiting their website again.
Tom,
I was searching for some of these parts that are all from american car craft just being sold by mom and pop home vendors, but they don't carry or at least have on their websites the full complete HHR line, had to get the part numbers from it so when I called a vendor, I could ask for them by the correct part number.
Now I am just waiting for one of them to run a nice Sale and I will place my order.
I know not everyone has these - I have external cases that can mount the HD in from the infected PC. Once made into external HD's and accessed thru a USB cable to another PC you can easily repair the drive and disinfect it. Then install back in the PC and you're good to go. I got mine on ebay for $25 and it does SATA and IDE drives.
