Not in this case. There is no such caveat in the owners manual for the regular (Non-SS) HHR. That plus I've actually used it once on the front.....

Judging by how dumb some of the issues are in these deltas, I'm rather certain GM expected you to just toss the car in the ditch and leave it following a flat tire...

Except for when if doesn't fit on the SS.

It may be more of a saftey sticker for morons that drive with the donut for months(ie.. my neighbor). Front wheel drive probably has an issue with the size difference.

Size diff may be the answer. Front axles rotating at diff speeds is an issue-no matter how slight the size. Plus traction control issues with the narrow spare-computer may not like it after a while...

I don't like that I can't put tire chains on. Sometimes the mountain passes are "tire chains required" which means I will have to drive the Suburban in the winter if I have to go over them.

The tire chain issue is common to many cars with similar front struts, I had a 95 Buick Skylark (the EX's ride) that was the same way. Not that that makes it "okay" but it's not just an HHR design flaw.

For the 08' SS with a sun roof,
It has to be the absence of actual intierior lighting.

Well, it is the first and only car that I have ever owned that was this way. Honestly, I haven't put chains on in 20 years but I have them in my trunk in winter "just in case".

Did you spin the "dome light" 180° yet?
It's not exactly 1,000,000 candlepower but it's enough to read a map.
