What to use to remove the coating

Hi,

I am new here and love the forum!! Quick question.. What would you recommend to remove the coating on Factory Wheels (Aluminum)???

I want to let the painted gray in the slots but really need to remove that Coating to clean the wheels from where the former owner had tires put on and balanced they put the weights on the outside....

Need something to brush on..

TIA

Use aircraft paint remover - several makes/manufacturers can be found by google.

Hi,

Is it available in liquid form not a spray can?

TIA

I expect so - just use google.com and do a search for it. there are lots of different manufacturers of the stuff.

coating removal

I once used marine paint remover on a set of Fiero rims to refinish them. Worked great. It came in a quart can that I brushed on. You can control the coverage area better with a brush as opposed to a spray. Got it at Home Depot.

Hi,

Went to home Depot this morning.. And would you believe it NONE!!!! They even
now have a substitute for MEK!!! They had NOTHING as usual... (LOL)

Thanks for the tip,

be careful the paint remover stuff may etch the aluminium rims

Hi Old Blue,

Right now the job is to remove that coating.. To finish the rims they will get a brushed satin look. My HHR has little or no chrome on it The Wheels are the shiniest Metal on my car..
