I bought a 2005 Honda Element last month for $2600- one owner and good maintenance records. I've been fixing it up- the last item to replace will be the radiator later this week- slow seepage from around the plastic core cap- only about $55 for a radiator. New tires, $318, new condenser fan , $42- and added the Honda keyless remotes- receiver module from a CR-V plugs in under the dash and works great- just program it to your vehicle- $102- Amazon
Compared to the HHR, it's a lot more versatile, when it comes to hauling stuff and the head room is much higher- rear seats have limo sized leg room. Gas mileage is about 4 mpg less than the HHR. I love the higher seating position- , being able to see farther ahead, feels much safer out on the road and at intersections- just beware of blind spots from the side pillars-
The front and rear seats fold flat, for a nap at a rest stop or stealth camping - there is 6 ft behind the front seats and you can sit upright on the edge of the folded down seats- You can fold the rear seats to the side walls or easily remove them.
There weren't as many Elements made as HHRs- starting at 84,000 in 2003, then steadily down to 14,000 for 2011 model year- I think that having only two passenger rear seating eliminated a lot of buyers-
I spent some time detailing my new ride--

I plan on building a micro camper with mine-
