Got to have this thing right for my drive from California to Texas in a week and a half to see my daughter for 1st time in many years.
The vast majority of HHR’s were 2.2L. Late year 2.4, low, miles, low-corrosion climate; the car’s a gem, certainly worth the best.

Now I wonder if the 2.4’s are even more rare than SS’s.

I wasn't aware that there weren't that many 2.4l. I know mine is in great condition as far as body and interior. Got all the bells and whistles with sun roof and trim and leather (don't know that's real leather but it looks nice) seat warmers and nice shiny rims etc. I'm lost without it and am hoping to get it back some time today esp since i dont have a second car.

The LS HHRs were all 2.2 litres
the 1LT HHRs were all 2.2 litres
The 2LT HHRs were either 2.2 or 2.4 litre depending on which option box was checked.
The 2LT also was the only model with the option to order FE3 suspension

Fleet orders excluded. Rental fleets could order anything they wanted. Never say "all" on the internet.

"Sport Suspension"; after market parts are mostly FE3. I have never been able to tell the difference.

How would I know if I had it? What would I look for. I know it seems like I have a stiff suspension as it is.

BTW sorry this thread got a little off the subject.

Check the RPO code sticker in your car’s glovebox.
This site also has a RPO code decipher thread. It’s a Stickey listed under the General HHR column. Look up all your codes if you want to see how it was equipped new.

The LS was 2.2 only especially since that was less expensive then the 2.4 when the 2.2 didn’t have VVT prior to 2009.

Here’s the 2010 sales brochure option page. As you can see, it shows:
  • 2.4L optional on 1LT only, standard on 2LT
  • FE3 exclusive to and standard on 2LT

I also have the 2008 brochure, which which is similar but did not allow the 5-sp manual with the 2.4L. I see no such restriction here.

As you can see, generally:
  • 1LS was the base model, and allowed few options
  • 1LT added little of substance but allowed a lot more options for the most flexibility
  • 2LT was loaded with most of the goodies standard, including a couple exclusives, with only a few remaining options

It's tricky to discern 1LT from 2LT in the wild. The chrome exhaust tip 2.4L telltale doesn't do it. Also, special editions are another can 'o worms.

Not discussing SS here (technically RPO 1SS,) which is in a class by itself.

As always, these principles don’t necessarily apply to fleet orders. They make their own rules.
