I guess my question is more along the lines of whether or not the measurements have to be exact or not.

 

It has to be exact on the bolt patten. You got a little room to move on the offset.

On a side note. American racing has a few new rims out for the HHR. They don't list the HHR but you can find them under a Pontiac G6.

I am interseted in replacing the stock 17" with 20's - the aftermarket shop at the dealership, stated that ABS will need to be adjusted - my transmission man said the trans might have to be re-programed. Can you shed any light on this??
The chevy hhr site refuses to answer any questions about any modifications.

 

ok If the offset was bigger,Say 45mm.Would that make the wheels stick out the sides more?

 

Welp, I guess that wipes out my idea of transfering my 18" American Racing "Polished Aero"s that I pulled off my ole PT Cruiser.

(urgh...the cursed 5 x 100 bolt pattern)

 

I have 20's on my HHR, and didnt have to make any adjustments at all. Its been 2 months and 2500 miles with no problems at all.

What is the exact size of the 20's 20x??? and whos tire and what size did you use???

 

The higher the number, the more "tucked" under the fender the wheel will be. The lower the number, the more "dished" the wheel will be - deep dished RWD go negative on the offset. So 35mm offset will stick out more than 45mm.
