Why 17 inches wheel good for LT not LS?

I could get 4 original 17 inches mags for my HHR LS.

But after searching the web everywhere I get the same information that LS takes 16 inches wheels, while the LT can get both 16 and 17.

The LS came from the factory with only 16 inch wheels.

The LT was available with either 16 or 17 inch wheels.

17 inch wheels that fit the LT will fit on the LS.

Parts books only list "as factory installed".

For future readers , the 18” SS wheels, 17” 2LT wheels, 16” LS wheels fit all years all models, except the SS fitted with front Brembo 12.5 brakes. And the 16” LS wheels fit the SS non Brembo 11.6” front brakes.

Ok and if I don't take low profile tire can I expect the same comfort from one wheel size to another?

I don't really notice much difference between the 16" and 17" wheels/tires.

Theoretically, the 17" will have a slightly harsher ride due to less sidewall, but I don't think it's significant. You can also select a more compliant tire make/model for the 17" rims and get a better ride.

The SS 18" tires do have a little "harsher" ride, but better handling (like most things in life it's a tradeoff).

I didn’t notice any more harsh a ride 16,17 or 18” , perhaps the tire brand, tire pressure I run .

Most tire sidewall will be softer ride. That's why I bumped my OE 215/50/17 to 225/50/17, minimal but improved & plumper looking.
