Can i get xm radio installed on the factory radio or would i have to buy a new radio for the car?

I love our XM radio, but wish it was a portable so I could go in the house with it to finish listening to the old Time Radio network shows! I often stay in the HHR a while to let "The Mysterious Traveler " and such finish:lol:

So, if you are adding an XM radio, you could get a portable one and jack it into your car radio when you are in your car. Then you would have the ability to take it with you anywhere and only have to pay the one license.
That is how I would do it if our car did not come with XM. You may want to emulate the factory way and if so, I'm sure someone in the forum would sell their XM box if they are not using it. The license # goes with the box and is turned on by XM central, so if an XM box is working and just not activated, it would be a fine candidate for such an operation.
A lot of folks let their XM expire. We did in our Buick, but I do not think that will happen in the HHR .;)

Then you have to get the antenna......

Maybe the portable idea is easier and more versatile........

Did a google search and found THIS that sounds like it might work. Not bad for $99.00 and it's direct from XM too. :thumb:

If I were to get XM radio, I would get a portable unit so I could listen to it in other places than my car. My HHR was purchased w/ the XM ready reciever but I haven't bothered to subscibe once my 3 month trial expired.

Once you get the first radio activated, each one after that is only 6.99 a month if you get the family plan. We pay about $35 bucks for all four. That sounds like a lot but I used to but 4+ cd's a month and now I haven't bought one this year.

We got both of ours cars activated and two xm2go's and we love it. Thay just came out with a new portable that will play mp3's and record up to 15 hours of xm! I think Pioneer makes it.

The xm2go's even have a headphone you can get with a built in antenna so that you can use it anywhere. (the portable antenna that comes with it sucks and doesn't work at all) I use mine while walking or working outside all the time.

Listen on-line a lot too!
