That is true, they are also replacing all of the newer models because Delphi in their infinite wisdom fixed the part but never revised the part number. So GM and dealerships would have absolutely no idea if the part they were using was old and broken, or new and fixed.

Thus many of the 08-11's could have a broken part right from the factory as well, though not as likely.

 

seen on detroit news channel 4 that gm is recalling all models to check key tumblers. it said that there were some 5000 of them installed and they don't know which vehicles or models they were put into.so as a result they have to check all vehicles .news cast was mar 28/14 11 pm news.wonder where this leaves us canadian purchasers as their has been nothing coming from our ntsb or government on this problem . regards&later KEWATIN

 

Since mine DOES sometimes have difficulty with the ignition switch and I do drive on some very curvy and bumpy roads depending on how I come home it really sucks that I've read that the thing could shut off on me in those conditions. Hairpin turns with a 100+ foot drop would be kinda rough.

When did the title of the thread get changed? And where is the link to the "ALL HHRs" part? I did re read the first 3 pages and the last 4 pages. I refuse to re read a bunch of junk about people getting their letters.

That's 95,000 not 5,000 switches in the wild.

Just to be sure, I typed my VIN into the recall data base and got nothing back.

I'm not surprised that GM hasn't updated their VIN checker for recall info yet, the recall was extended right at 5pm on Friday night, so it'll be Monday or later until they get their site updated.

I would never change the thread title based on unsubstantiated reports or rumors.

OK, it wasn't imbedded then, and the other links I found with Google were not exactly definitive.

What I saw is that cars that had the part replaced since 2007 are covered, not ALL HHRs. The concern is that the defective part was sold to after-market suppliers, so IF your part was replaced AFTER it left the factory you are included. At least that's what I read.

That was 95,000 units sold to the after-market, I think it says possible 5,000 installed in the previous campaign. The 3 I've read all say different things.

My mistake for not embedding the links in Post #1 last night Don, it was a long day.

I was shown x-ray photos of a "bad" part vs. a "good" part by my dealer's Chief Service Writer, and the internal differences are minor enough that even taking the assemblies apart wouldn't be a guarantee of weeding out the "bad" ones.

So by extendlng the recall, GM is hoping to get all of the first design switches out of vehicles still in service.

If Drew is allowed to let me copy those photos, I'll post them on the site so members can see how minor the difference is between a "known good" and a "defective" part.

Recycling the part number was a major "Oops!", and the people responsible are probably long gone.

 

I saw those Xrays somewhere on the internet the other day. Don't recall where.

 

Not making excuses for anyone just telling it how it is. The new ign switches are getting new part #"s so they will know the difference and replacing ALL of them even if you had one replaced before. I would advise All of you to get it done. If yours doesen't feel loose you could probily let the rush go by first but DO get it done PLEASE. And please remember you Dealer is just trying to get them done as fast as possable so be understanding. WE just want to fix your HHR"S and all of the car in the recall.
